Program Mission
ACCESS WILLIAMSBURG has a mission to gain greater efficiency through fully coordinated transportation scheduling through the use of a single telephone number that will allow senior citizens over the age of sixty and individuals with disabilities to utilize a single access point for their transportation needs.
In the August 2013 report, “Senior Transportation Services in the Greater Williamsburg Area: Review of Existing and Projected Capacity and Needs and Recommendations” identified a single point of entry as the operational recommendation. The program fits the Coordinated Human Service Mobility (CHSM) Plan for the Hampton Roads region that includes Williamsburg for the need to expand coordination and collaboration among existing transportation providers.
The initial transportation providers in this unique partnership of public and private transportation providers are:
Williamsburg Area Transit Authority
The Arc of Greater Williamsburg
Peninsula Agency on Aging
Initial support provided by the individual Board of Directors of Williamsburg Area Transit Authority and the Peninsula Agency on Aging. Additional support provided by the City of Williamsburg, James City and York Counties, the Williamsburg Health Foundation, and the Virginia Department for Rail and Public Transportation.
